ABOUT US

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication is a teaching , and research School of the University of Dar es Salaam. It conducts training and offers consultancy on issues concerning Journalism and Mass Communication. The School endeavours to create an environment that enables the training to meet the needs of our society and give students the best possible academic and professional education to prepare them for entry into various careers in the information communication sector.

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication, formerly the Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication, came into effect on 1st April 2009, following the restructuring of University of Dar es Salaam’s Faculties and Institutes.
The School owes its origin to the former Tanzania School of Journalism (TSJ) which later got transformed into the Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication on 1st 2003 under the University Act, No.2 of 1972

This move will enable the School to offer Certificate in Journalism, Postgraduate Diplomas in Mass Communication and Degree courses in Journalism, Mass Communication as well as Public Relations and Advertising.

The School offers the following courses:

Certificate in Journalism (Cert in Journalism)
Postigraduate Diploma in Mass Communication (PGDMC)
Bachelor of Arts in Journalism B.A.(Journalism)
Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication B.A.(Mass Comm.)
Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Advertising B.A (Publ. Relations and Advert.)
