MISSION

The mission of the School is to offer training for those who are envisaged to work in the media industries which have a role of informing, educating and training the Tanzanian society. Furthermore, the School trains potential journalists who will effectively communicate with people outside the country in general and in Tanzania in particular regarding social, political and economic issues.

OBJECTIVES

• To provide facilities for the study of, and training in the principles, procedures and techniques of journalism and such other subjects related to journalism as the University of Dar es Salaam may from time to time decide.
  
• To conduct training leading to recognized professional and sub-professional qualifications in journalism and such other associated subjects as the University of Dar es Salaam may from time to time decide.
  

• To engage in research on theoretical, operational and organizational problems and training needs in journalism in the United Republic and to evaluate the results achieved by the training programs of the School.
  
• To engage in cooperation with public authorities and other organizations, in any other educational activity which in the opinion of the University of Dar es Salaam, is necessary, expedient or conducive to the promotion of journalism within the United Republic.
  

• To conduct professional examinations and to liase with the University of Dar es Salaam in granting professional and sub-professional diplomas, certificates of different types and other awards of the School
